How To Create a Sustainable Wardrobe

Want to work on adding sustainability into your life? Start with fashion!

The main focus of the Archive Attire brand is to sell staple pieces sustainably, so you can start your wardrobe by getting the look, with some advice from the founder herself!

The founder of Archive Attire, Lilly Kungs, noted that each staple piece you buy should be purchased with a monotone/Earth-tone color palette in mind so that they create a nice complementary piece for a variety of outfits and not just one with specific colors.

After speaking with Lilly, I was able to gather the tips and tricks on how to start creating a sustainable wardrobe. Here is some advice from the CEO herself:

Q: What would you say are staple pieces to invest in as a beginner, to build a sustainable wardrobe?

I would say a few staple pieces are white button down, loose-fitted jeans, suit pants with a matching (oversized) blazer, a nice quality coat, nice quality tank tops, and a knitted sweater.

Q: Is there a specific tactic you use in order to find products for your business that are trending and/or you know are going to sell?

I look on social media everyday and I look at what people are wearing, which is my tactic to find out what trends are happening and what would sell for my brand at the moment.

Q: What would a day in your life look like, as a sustainable fashion brand owner?

Everyday looks different and I am running this business alongside my studies. I usually have one class a day that is two or three hours and I structure my business schedule around different drops. There could be a day where I go to school and spend the rest of the afternoon at the school’s studio that I use in order to photograph my products. Whereas the next day I would go through and edit all the pictures so that the day after, I can create the social media content and place everything into the website.

Q: Do you have a favorite aspect of your job, or one that is particularly challenging?

I love walking into second-hands to source new products as well as shooting and coming up with creative ideas for campaign shoots.
